“Hi everyone. It’s me, the Gnitty Gritty Dirt Gnome, giving Kevin a hand with this week’s post. Before we get into some patriotic petals, I want to remind all of you that there’s still time to get yourself in the running to win two books. Yup, two books — and both of them are all about gnomes.
“The first is Kevin’s copy of Gnomes, a classic if ever there was one. Lots of imaginative illustrations and stories about the lives and adventures of my peeps. The other book is Garden Gnomes: A History, by Dr. Twigs Way, and it explains the lore of we wee folk.
“To read Kevin’s interview with Dr. Way and to leave a comment to be entered into the drawing, please click here and/or here.
“And now, for the red, the white, and the blooms. You know, if you squint, you can practically see the fireworks.”
“Happy Independence Day!”
Very patriotic. I have white and blue in my garden, but a distinct shortage of red.
Hey Jean. Hope you had a festive fourth. I love red in the garden — the hotter the better. 🙂
What a cute gnome to lead off the post on the patriotic plants. Happy July 4th.
Hope you had a enjoyable fourth. I’ve taken the holiday weekend off and now I’m catching up on comments and blogging duties — but it was fun and filling! 🙂
Love your fireworks!! Happy 4th of July!
And the same to you!
Happy fourth!
Hi Elaine. Hope you had a festive fourth!
I never thought about the possibility of planting a patriotic garden. I might think of being more intentional in the red, white and blue color scheme next year. Garden gnomes…I’ll have to see what you’ve been up to, Kevin. I think I may have missed a post! Hmmmm. Happy 4th!
Hi Debra. I didn’t intentionally plant a patriotic garden — it just worked out that way. Hope you enjoyed the fourth!
Gnomes are called tomtes in Sweden. I used to do red, white and blue planters and don’t know why I stopped. Maybe next year.
Hi Diane. A patriotic pot sounds great! Hope you enjoyed your fourth.
I love gnomes…wish I had some. I have a very red and white theme going on in front and the back has seemed to take on a life of purple and reds not sure why seems like its what caught my eye this year. Hope you had a wonderful 4th!
Purple and red sounds beautiful! Hope you had a festive fourth.
Love garden gnomes too, Kevin. Like fairies, they bring good luck to the garden.
Hi Cathy. I think gnomes have been given a bad reputation — every garden should have at least one (although my garden is still missing one — hopefully, one will find me). 🙂
