Yule Tune: Hallelujah Chorus (Flash Mob)

If you search YouTube for Handel’s “Hallelujah Chorus,” you’ll discover countless versions, from the Mormon Tabernacle choir to smaller church singing groups.  For me, though, nothing moves me more than a flash mob in the food court at the mall.

Although this video has been around for a number of years and although it enjoyed viral status, I find myself searching for this video all year long.  There are so many layers that bring on my emotions: having this amazing sound in something as common as the mall, watching the passion of the performers (who took the time to do this) and the reactions of the shoppers (who paused during the hectic holiday prep time), and wishing that I could be somewhere just as a flash mob begins.

Without any further delay, here is the “Hallelujah Chorus.”  Please, pass the Kleenex.

    • Not too shabby, Donna. 🙂 I think what I enjoy most about this version is the absolute joy on the faces of the performers and shoppers. I would love to be somewhere and have a flash mob surround me.

  1. Hi Kev,

I have been listening to your selctions tonight, and with.snow falling outside my window, you have somehow managed to create the magic of Christmas for me. Didn’t I once drag a whole group out caroling in Bellport trying to create that same magic on a bitterly cold night? ( It’s a memory I love, even though it was freezing!)
As I head off for Spain in about 10 days, I am sort of skipping the details of Christmas in America this year, but tonight you gave me a little US Christmas cheer. Thank you Kevin. Your spirit is always so easy to love, and you always make me smile with your words and love of music, gardening,…..and life!

Wishing you and Joe a happy holiday season. Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, my dear friends.

    • Jeannie!!! I do remember that night — traipsing through the dusting of snow to watch Santa arrive by boat in Bellport and the lighting of the tree. Cold but magical! Enjoy your winter life in Spain — we’ll be thinking of you! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!! 🙂

  2. I love these flash mobs, in particular at holiday time. One of our university choirs took their “cheer” to LAX last year and I only saw the YouTube, but would have loved to be there! I enjoyed this so much, Kevin!

    • Debra — I would love to be a bystander at that moment. A few years ago, the chorus at the high school where I work did a flash mob. Fortunately, I was tipped off so I could be there. I would love to be surprised!
